| | | California Trail California National Historic Trail Interpretive Center, Elko, NV opening in 2007
Wagons Ho! For the Bureau of Land Management in Elko, Nevada, this new, 16,000 square foot interpretive center will tell the story of the journey from Jumping Off through to Sutter’s Fort. The exhibit also interprets the change over time of the Trail and the Nation. From the 1840’s through 1870, both the Trail and the Nation changed dramatically.
This experience will utilize both indoor and outdoor spaces to interpret the California Trail. Immersive settings embedded with interactive experiences will involve visitors in understanding life on the Trail. Interactive maps and audio re-creations will delve deeper into the stories behind specific parties and families. Tactile interactive experiences will be combined with interactive media to provide multiple experiences for varied learning styles. We are striving to create experiences which allow the visitor to better see the struggles experienced by the pioneers. This includes cross sections of covered wagons, travel distance comparisons, vivid dioramas, video re-creations and oral histories.
