| | | What's Going On? Oakland Museum of California, Oakland, CA
What’s Going On? opened in 2004 and was designed in collaboration with the staff at the Oakland Museum of California. The Museum required a designer to enhance its internal curatorial and historical team for this 6,000 square foot, traveling exhibit. Dan Wodarcyk and S2 managed the design of this project, from schematic design to final exhibit implementation. Through weekly meetings and many iterations of design influenced greatly by content experts, historians and the people who lived through the time, What’s Going On? has opened on time and on budget. The exhibit focuses on the influence of the Vietnam War on California, and vice versa. The exhibit relies on a heavy emphasis of artifacts, imagery and news footage, as well as immersive features such as a 1968 theater, a recreation of a DC-8 airplane interior (used to bring troops home) and supergraphics which highlight the drama of the time. The exhibit was designed for ease of set up, tear down and travel.
